Professional tips from every product in the Tayla-Made range. Prep, application, structure, art, finish — the small things that separate a good service from a great one.
Do not assume cuticle is only found at the base of the nail. Inspect the entire nail plate for thin or almost invisible non-living tissue. Proper identification and removal of true cuticle prevents product being applied over tissue rather than directly onto the natural nail, which can lead to lifting and reduced retention. The goal is not aggressive prep — it's to remove what should not be there while preserving what should.
Once you have dehydrated it, do not touch it. Oils from fingertips and surrounding skin can transfer straight back onto a freshly prepared nail, compromising the adhesion process. Maintaining a clean, oil-free surface is key.
Tacky means ready. The tacky layer on The Bonder is intentional and should NOT be wiped away. This tackiness is crucial for promoting adhesion between the natural nail plate and the subsequent gel product.
The coverage comes from pigment, not product thickness. For highly pigmented gels like The Perfect Black and The Perfect White, apply one very thin, controlled coat and cure completely for 60 seconds. Applying too thickly can compromise light penetration and curing. More product does not create better coverage — the pigment is already doing the work.
Thin means thin. When applying highly pigmented gels, do not load up the brush simply because you are applying one coat. The pigment is already providing the coverage. Apply in thin, controlled layers and cure each layer completely for optimal results and to avoid unnecessary bulk.
Where appropriate, allow products like The Base to smooth the natural nail surface through product application rather than unnecessary removal of natural nail. For structured overlays with products like The Foundation or The Builder, use their self-levelling properties to create as much of the architecture as possible before curing. Your file should refine the work, not rebuild it.
For extension shaping, The Builder can receive an initial 10-second cure so an experienced nail tech can carefully refine or pinch the C-curve. The formula is designed for zero spring-back after this shaping cure. The 10 seconds is a shaping stage only — always return the enhancement to the lamp for the complete 60-second cure.
Secure around it — do not bury it. When applying gems and charms with The Gem Adhesive, keep the visible surface of crystals clean so their clarity, facets, and reflective finish remain visible. For 3D nail art, use the controlled consistency to sculpt raised details; refine the height, shape, and placement before curing.
There is no inhibition layer to cleanse with no-wipe top coats like The Gloss Top Coat and The Matte Top Coat. Allow the finished nails to cool momentarily before touching the surface or applying cuticle oil. This prevents smudging or compromising the finish.
Matte shows everything. Take a moment before curing with The Matte Top Coat to check for complete, even coverage across the entire nail. Any inconsistencies can be made more visible by the matte finish.
