The Cuticle Remover by Tayla-Made Nail Co is a professional nail preparation product designed to gently soften and loosen true cuticle and non-living tissue attached to the nail plate.

Proper removal of true cuticle is an important part of nail preparation. Product needs a clean nail plate to adhere to, and cuticle left behind on the nail surface can interfere with adhesion and contribute to lifting and retention issues.

Its jelly-like consistency helps the product remain exactly where it is applied rather than running into the surrounding skin, while the curved/rounded precision brush allows for precise application to the nail plate and around the cuticle area.

There is no curing required. Simply apply, allow the product to work for a few moments, gently remove the softened true cuticle and continue with your normal nail preparation.

Understanding True Cuticle

Do you know what the cuticle actually is?

The word cuticle is commonly used to describe the visible skin surrounding the base of the nail — but technically, this is not the true cuticle. The living skin situated at the base of the nail is known as the Proximal Nail Fold.

The proximal nail fold is living tissue and forms part of the protective barrier around the developing nail. It should not be confused with the non-living cuticle attached to the nail plate. Cutting, tearing or unnecessarily damaging living tissue can cause pain and bleeding and increase the risk of infection.

So what is true cuticle?

As the nail plate grows forward from the nail root, a very thin layer of non-living tissue can remain attached to the nail plate and travel forward with it. This thin, often translucent tissue attached to the surface of the nail plate is the true cuticle.

Because it can be extremely fine and difficult to see, it is easy to assume the nail plate is completely clean when cuticle may still be present. Importantly, true cuticle is not necessarily confined to the base of the nail. Non-living tissue can remain attached further down the nail plate and should be thoroughly removed during preparation.

Why Cuticle Removal Matters

Successful nail product application relies heavily on correct preparation. Gel and enhancement products need to adhere directly to a properly prepared natural nail plate.

When true cuticle remains attached to the nail, your nail product may be applied over this non-living tissue rather than directly onto the nail plate. Because true cuticle does not provide the same suitable adhesive surface as the properly prepared natural nail plate beneath it, leaving it behind can interfere with adhesion and contribute to lifting around the cuticle area, premature product separation, reduced retention, an uneven application around the base of the nail and a less refined finished result.

Thorough cuticle removal isn't simply about making the nail look neat — it is an important part of preparing the nail for successful product application.

How to Use

1. Apply — Using the curved/rounded precision brush, apply The Cuticle Remover directly to the nail plate where true cuticle and non-living tissue are present.
2. Allow to work — Allow the product to sit on the nail plate for a few moments so it can soften and loosen the attached tissue.
3. Gently remove — Using an orangewood stick, gently work over the nail plate to lift and remove the softened true cuticle. Pay particular attention to the cuticle area and inspect the remainder of the nail plate for any non-living tissue that may still be attached.
4. Clean the nail plate — Thoroughly remove any remaining Cuticle Remover and loosened tissue from the nail plate.
5. Continue your prep — Once all true cuticle, loosened tissue and remaining product have been thoroughly removed, continue with your Tayla-Made preparation process.

Professional Tips

Don't assume cuticle is only found at the base of the nail

True cuticle can be extremely thin and almost invisible, and non-living tissue may remain attached further down the nail plate. During preparation, inspect the entire nail plate rather than concentrating only on the visible cuticle area.

A nail that looks clean isn't necessarily a nail plate that has been completely prepared.

Gentle doesn't mean incomplete

The aim isn't to aggressively scrape the nail plate. Allow The Cuticle Remover time to soften the attached non-living tissue, then use your orangewood stick to gently work across the nail surface. If tissue remains, work methodically rather than applying unnecessary force.
