Overview

The Dehydrator by Tayla-Made Nail Co is a professional nail preparation product designed to temporarily remove surface moisture and oils from the natural nail plate prior to product application.

A clean, dry nail plate provides the ideal surface for your adhesion products to do their job. Oils, moisture and contaminants left on the surface of the natural nail can interfere with adhesion and contribute to lifting and premature product separation.

The Dehydrator provides a simple but important preparation step that helps create the clean, dry surface needed before applying The Bonder and your chosen Tayla-Made nail system. Simply brush a thin layer over the natural nail plate and allow it to air dry completely. No UV or LED curing required.

Good Preparation Doesn't Mean Aggressive Preparation

At Tayla-Made Nail Co, we believe successful product retention shouldn't come at the expense of the natural nail. The goal of nail preparation is to create the right surface for your product to adhere to — not to unnecessarily remove layers of the natural nail plate.

Some preparation methods rely on heavier buffing, filing or etching of the natural nail plate in an attempt to improve adhesion. Repeatedly removing unnecessary layers of the nail plate can gradually thin and weaken the natural nail.

The Dehydrator provides another important part of the adhesion process by removing temporary surface moisture, oils and contaminants that can interfere with product adhesion. Rather than relying on aggressive filing, thorough preparation combined with the correct preparation products allows us to preserve as much of the natural nail plate as possible.

Remove what shouldn't be there. Remove the surface barriers to adhesion. Preserve the natural nail underneath. That's the Tayla-Made approach to preparation.

Does the Natural Nail Produce Oil?

Not Exactly

You will often hear people refer to clients as having "oily nails", but the natural nail plate itself does not contain sebaceous glands and does not secrete sebum.

Surface oil can be transferred onto the nail plate from the surrounding skin, fingertips, natural sebum transferred through everyday contact, cuticle oils, hand creams and lotions, skincare and cosmetic products, and other environmental contaminants.

The nail plate itself also naturally contains small amounts of lipids within its structure. These are different from surface oils transferred onto the nail and form part of the natural composition of the nail plate.

The problem for product adhesion is primarily what is sitting on the surface of the nail at the time of application.

Even touching a freshly prepared nail plate can transfer oils from the skin back onto the surface. This is why careful preparation — and avoiding unnecessary contact with the nail plate once it has been prepared — is so important.

Why Moisture & Oil Matter

Gel and enhancement products need to bond effectively to the prepared natural nail plate.

Residual surface moisture, oils and contaminants can create a barrier between the natural nail and the products being applied over it. If that barrier remains, it can contribute to lifting, peeling, premature product separation, reduced retention and inconsistent adhesion.

The purpose of The Dehydrator is to temporarily remove these surface barriers, leaving the natural nail plate clean and dry ready for the next stage of your preparation.

Clean & Prepare → Dehydrate → Bond → Apply. Each product has its own role within the preparation process.

How to Use

1. Complete your nail preparation. Complete your usual manicure or pedicure preparation, including removal of true cuticle and non-living tissue from the nail plate. When using The Cuticle Remover, ensure all remaining product and loosened tissue have been thoroughly removed before continuing.
2. Apply The Dehydrator. Using the curved/rounded precision brush, apply a thin layer of The Dehydrator to the natural nail plate. The product only needs to be applied to exposed natural nail. There is no benefit in applying The Dehydrator over existing gel, acrylic or other enhancement material.
3. Allow to air dry. Allow The Dehydrator to air dry completely. No UV or LED lamp is required. As the product evaporates, the natural nail will appear chalky and dry, indicating that the nail plate has been dehydrated and is ready for the next stage of preparation.
4. Apply The Bonder. Once The Dehydrator has completely air dried, continue your preparation with The Bonder before applying your chosen Tayla-Made nail system. Avoid touching the prepared nail plate with your fingers after dehydration, as this can transfer oils from the skin back onto the nail.

Professional Tip

Once You've Dehydrated It, Don't Touch It!

The natural nail plate itself does not secrete sebum, but oils from your fingertips and surrounding skin can easily be transferred back onto a freshly prepared nail. Once The Dehydrator has been applied and the nail plate is clean and dry, avoid touching the nail surface with your fingers.

If the prepared nail is accidentally touched or contaminated before product application, clean and prepare the area again as required before proceeding. Small details during preparation can make a significant difference to retention.
