Overview

The Base by Tayla-Made Nail Co is our dedicated traditional gel base coat, created for nail techs who want a thinner, straightforward base layer underneath their chosen gel colour.

Not every nail needs additional structure, and not every nail tech wants a thicker base underneath their gel colour. Applied over The Bonder, its smooth self-levelling formula creates an even foundation ready for colour while helping smooth minor ridges and surface imperfections.

The Foundation may be the multi-tasker of the Tayla-Made range, but sometimes you don't need six functions. Sometimes you simply need a great base coat. That's exactly what The Base is designed to be.

Why Have The Base and The Foundation?

Because not every nail tech — or every service — needs the same base. The Tayla-Made system gives you a choice. The Foundation is our versatile 6 in 1 product and will likely become the base product many nail techs reach for most often. Its thicker consistency allows it to provide additional strength and structure while offering multiple uses beyond simply being a base coat.

But sometimes you don't need all of that. Sometimes you simply want a traditional gel base coat. That's where The Base comes in. It has a thinner consistency than The Foundation and is designed specifically to provide a smooth, reliable foundation underneath your gel colour, giving nail techs who prefer a lighter, thinner base application another option within the Tayla-Made system.

Neither product replaces the other. It's about choosing the right base for the service you're performing.

When Would You Choose The Base?

The Base is ideal when you're performing a traditional gel polish manicure and don't require the additional strength, structure or thickness offered by The Foundation.

Why The Base?

Thinner Consistency

The Base has a thinner consistency than The Foundation, allowing it to be applied in a fine, controlled layer. This makes it particularly suited to traditional gel polish manicures where additional thickness or structure isn't required.

Smooth Self-Levelling Formula

The Base is self-levelling, allowing the product to settle smoothly across the nail plate after application. This helps create an even surface ready for your gel colour.

Helps Smooth Minor Ridges

Natural nails aren't always perfectly smooth — and they don't need to be filed thinner simply to make them so. The Base can help fill and smooth minor ridges and surface imperfections, creating a more even foundation before colour application.

Supports Adhesion

The Base is used as part of the complete Tayla-Made preparation and gel system. When applying The Base to the natural nail plate, The Bonder must be applied first. The Bonder creates the essential adhesion-promoting link between the prepared natural nail plate and The Base.

Curved/Rounded Precision Brush

All Tayla-Made bottle products feature our curved/rounded brush, designed to follow the natural shape of the nail and provide controlled, precise application. With a thinner base gel, this allows the nail tech to apply a fine, even layer while maintaining control around the cuticle and sidewalls.

60 Second Cure

Once applied, The Base requires a 60-second cure under a compatible UV/LED nail lamp before continuing with your chosen gel colour.

The Base vs The Foundation

For many nail techs, The Foundation may become their everyday go-to. For others, the simplicity and thinner application of The Base may be exactly what they prefer. And some nail techs will use both — choosing between them depending on the client, the condition of the natural nail and the service being performed. That's why both belong in the Tayla-Made system.

How to Use

1. Prepare the natural nail — Complete your normal nail preparation, ensuring all true cuticle and non-living tissue have been removed from the nail plate. When required, use The Cuticle Remover as part of your preparation.
2. Apply The Dehydrator — Apply The Dehydrator to the natural nail plate and allow it to air dry completely. The nail plate should appear chalky and dry. Once dehydrated, avoid touching the prepared nail plate with your fingers.
3. Apply The Bonder — Using the curved/rounded precision brush, apply a thin, controlled layer of The Bonder to the natural nail plate. Allow it to air set for a few seconds. It will remain tacky — do not wipe. No UV or LED curing is required.
4. Apply The Base — Using the curved/rounded precision brush, apply a thin, even layer of The Base over the prepared natural nail. Allow the self-levelling formula to settle smoothly across the nail surface.
5. Cure — Cure The Base for 60 seconds under a compatible UV/LED nail lamp.
6. Apply colour — Once cured, continue with your chosen gel colour.

Choose Your Base According to the Service

Don't automatically reach for the same base product for every client. Ask yourself: does this nail simply need a base — or does it need additional strength and structure?

For a traditional gel polish manicure where additional structure isn't required, The Base provides a lighter, thinner option. When additional strength, structure or versatility is required, The Foundation may be the better choice. The Tayla-Made system gives you both options so you can select the product that best suits the client and the service in front of you.

Preserve the Natural Nail

Let your product create the smoothness. Natural nails have ridges and surface imperfections. They don't need to be aggressively filed simply to make them perfectly flat. Where minor ridges are present, The Base can help smooth and even the nail surface through product application rather than unnecessary removal of the natural nail plate.
