The Base Colour isn't simply a gel polish colour. Its base coat is built into the colour formula, allowing it to perform two functions within the Tayla-Made system: Base Coat + Gel Colour.

Traditional gel polish application usually requires a dedicated base coat before colour can be applied. The Base Colour removes that separate product step. Once the natural nail has been correctly prepared and The Bonder applied, you can move directly into your chosen Base Colour shade.

This is an important distinction within the Tayla-Made system. The Base Colour contains the base coat function, but it does not replace The Bonder. The Bonder provides the crucial bonding layer between the prepared natural nail and The Base Colour.

The Bonder adheres to the prepared natural nail and creates the tacky bonding surface ready for The Base Colour.

So while you can skip a separate base coat when using The Base Colour: don't skip The Bonder.

Why Have The Base If The Base Colour Already Contains One?

It's a fair question. The answer comes down to choice and service type.

The Base is Tayla-Made's dedicated traditional gel base coat. It gives nail techs the flexibility to use a separate base underneath other gel colours or wherever a traditional base-and-colour system is preferred.

The Base Colour has already incorporated that base coat function into each of its 141 shades. So when you're performing a straightforward Base Colour manicure on the natural nail, you don't need to apply The Base underneath it.

The Base has its place. The Base Colour simply doesn't need it.

Apply your colour in controlled, appropriate layers, allowing each layer to cure completely before continuing. Different shades and finishes may naturally vary in coverage, so application should always be adjusted according to the individual colour rather than simply applying more product at once.

The Colour Cap Is Your True-to-Life Bottle Reference

Every bottle of The Base Colour features a colour cap that is painted using the actual gel colour from inside that bottle. This means the colour cap is a true and accurate physical representation of the shade inside, giving you an immediate true-to-life colour reference directly on the bottle.

With 141 shades in the collection, this makes identifying and comparing colours at the nail desk much easier.

When viewing The Base Colour online, remember that photographs can vary from the true-to-life shade due to lighting, photography, screens and individual display settings.

When choosing colours in person, the painted colour cap provides an accurate physical representation of the shade inside the bottle. The Tayla-Made Base Colour Chart can also be used to compare shades side by side.

Thin Layers Matter

High Pigment Doesn't Mean Heavy Application

The Base Colour is highly pigmented, but that doesn't mean more product should be applied in each layer. UV/LED gel needs to receive the correct amount of light throughout the product to achieve its complete cure.

Apply The Base Colour in thin, controlled layers, keeping the product away from the surrounding skin and curing every layer for the complete 60 seconds.

If greater coverage is required, add another thin layer rather than making the first layer excessively thick.

HEMA Free & TPO Free

The Base Colour is formulated HEMA Free and TPO Free, consistent with the Tayla-Made Nail Co gel system. The formula has been developed to comply with current European cosmetic standards, providing a modern professional gel colour system for salon use.

As with all professional UV/LED gel products, correct application remains essential. Avoid contact with the skin and surrounding tissue and ensure every layer receives its complete required cure.

HEMA Free and TPO Free doesn't replace responsible gel application.

How to Use

1. Prepare — Complete your natural nail preparation, ensuring all true cuticle and non-living tissue has been removed from the nail plate.
2. Dehydrate — Apply The Dehydrator to the natural nail plate. Allow it to air dry completely. The natural nail will appear chalky and dry as the product evaporates.
3. Bond — Apply a thin layer of The Bonder to the natural nail plate. Allow it a few seconds to air set until it reaches its tacky, ready stage. Do not wipe.
4. Apply The Base Colour — Using the curved/rounded precision brush, apply your chosen Base Colour shade in a controlled, even layer. Work carefully around the cuticle and sidewalls, avoiding contact with the surrounding skin.
5. Cure — Cure for 60 seconds under a compatible UV/LED nail lamp.
6. Assess Your Colour — Assess the coverage of your chosen shade. Apply additional thin, controlled colour layers as required, curing each layer completely for 60 seconds.
7. Finish — Apply your chosen Tayla-Made top coat. Choose The Gloss Top Coat for a smooth, high-shine finish or The Matte Top Coat for a silky, sophisticated matte finish. Cure for 60 seconds.

The Tayla-Made Base Colour System

1. The Cuticle Remover — Remove true cuticle and non-living tissue from the natural nail plate.
2. The Dehydrator — Temporarily removes surface oils and moisture from the natural nail.
3. The Bonder — Creates the tacky bonding layer between the prepared natural nail and your gel system.
4. The Base Colour — Your base coat and colour in one.
5. Finish — Choose The Gloss Top Coat or The Matte Top Coat.

When Do I Need The Foundation Instead?

The Base Colour is designed for gel colour application. It isn't intended to provide the additional structure of The Foundation.

If the natural nail requires additional support, surface levelling, reinforcement or structure, The Foundation may be the more appropriate product underneath your colour.

The Foundation provides a thicker, flexible, soak-off layer when additional surface levelling, support or structure is required. The Base Colour provides your colour.

This allows the nail tech to adapt the Tayla-Made system to the individual nail rather than treating every client exactly the same.

The Base Colour simplifies your colour application, but simplifying doesn't mean skipping proper preparation. Your retention still begins with: Correct Cuticle Removal, Dehydration, The Bonder. Then The Base Colour can do what it was designed to do.

Let Your Brush Do the Work

The curved/rounded shape of the Tayla-Made brush is there for a reason. Rather than repeatedly pushing colour toward the cuticle, use the curved edge of the brush to follow the natural shape of the cuticle area. Work slowly and deliberately. Get your placement right before curing.
